Mat Washer

A mobile, fully automated system for cleaning wooden mats. The only input requirements are an initial supply of water and stacks of unwashed mats, all subsequent steps are automated and the water supply is recycled.

This project was undertaken on a time and materials contract and required a total of 13 months from concept to physical product.
After receiving a load of mats the machine automatically indexes individual mats so that they may each be taken through the washing system. Mats are held in a vertical position by a gripper assembly and carried through the wash house where they are exposed to a spray of water from 4 manifolds as well as a chemical sprayer depositing an anti fungal chemical. Along with the sprayers are sets of both cylindrical and roller brushes which are capable of brushing with variable pressure as the mats pass through.

The machine sprays 2000 gallons per minute at 100 psi allowing it to wash a mat in as little as 70 seconds. The operator may choose the speed that a mat or group of mats will be washed based on the quantity of dirt, and may take the mat back for as many passes as prove necessary. All functions of the machine can be adjusted while it is running without disrupting the washing sequence.

The cleaned mats are deposited on an outfeed assembly which collects the mats into a single stack before bringing them into a horizontal orientation so they may be removed via loader.

This completely mobile system uses the water reservoir and filter tanks shown to constantly recycle 26000 gallons of water.
